How does Communication with parents work at

Shoreham Academy?

At Shoreham academy we strive for our parents to have a good working relationship with us; this ensures that the child is getting the best support possible. We can be contacted through our direct phone numbers, individual emails address or our group ILS Leadership email address.

Where appropriate meetings can be booked in this us.

As a team we attend all parents evenings and events.

Who will be working with my child?

When our students join us in year 7 we will have assigned a Keyworker; one of our TAs– The additional adult is there to support the student. They will pick them up in mentor time on a regular basis to discuss how school is going and whether they need anything. Alongside this your child might work with one of our Tutors to support their access to the curriculum; if it is outlined in their EHCP.

What additional Transition does Shoreham Academy Provide?

Once it has been confirmed that the student will be joining us into year 7 we have the below offers for bespoke Transition:

· Small group sessions with other EHCP students

· Tours of the school with staff ( this can include staff from the primary school)

· A booklet about the ILS team so they know who to seek help from.

· Support on Summer schools

· Support in place on the Transition days.

What support is there for homework?

All students at Shoreham Academy are expected to engage in Homework.

Our homework systems are adapted to suit the levels of our students and we work alongside the departments to ensure it is accessible.

For some students who struggle with homework, we can put in place a reasonable adjustment so that students have a go at the homework but do not get sanctions.

As a department we have a homework club after school in our space every evening.

How do Teachers know about my child’s needs?

All students on the SEND register have an individual learning profile which is attached to the our register system (Arbor)

The ILP

· Provides staff with information and strategies on the child taken from their EHCP

· Outlines the provision provided by ILS and outside agencies

· Has targets set with the students.

· Is colour coded with our graduated response.

Being part of the wider School community

At Shoreham academy we want our students with SEND to have as many opportunities to experience life skills and experiences outside of the curriculum. All our students have access to every opportunity that the Academy has to offer alongside departmental led experiences too.

Clubs are encouraged with all students ensuring a balance between academic and extra curricular. We promote our students getting involved in after school clubs, School trips and events as part of the community.
